Our first pop-up reading room!

So, what is a pop-up reading room?  Those of you who have seen our earlier posts about why we were fascinated by these spaces of informal working class education will have an idea of the kinds of reading rooms from which we’re drawing inspiration.  Over the course of the next few months, we’ll be taking our pop-up reading room on tour, each one featuring a special ‘study group’ style event.  This will echo the inquisitive nature of ordinary people in the decade after the First World War.

Our first of these exhibitions will be at Saltwell Towers, Saltwell Park, Gateshead. The  pop-up reading room will be on show from 1st to 6th November from 9am to 3pm.  And 10:30 am on Saturday 4th November will feature a discussion led by Nigel Todd on North Eastern responses to the Russian Revolution, and how this looks from the perspective of a century later.
