We’re part way through a short creative course on felting and applique, led by brilliant WEA tutor Ruth Gowland. Our participants are creating their own fabrics and designing pieces which will be on display when our reading room exhibition next pops up.

To date we’ve seen a rich diversity of colours, some wonderful responses to the styles and genres of 1918-28, and engagement with project themes, for example the numbers of “superfluous women” as a result of the loss of so many young men during the First World War.

The finished pieces will be stunning, so come and see them at our next pop-up reading room, in January at Newcastle City Library (further details soon).
