The weeks following the Easter break are going to be very busy for the project, as we ramp up the learning opportunities to help build towards the culmination of our research and creative activities, as well as our forthcoming publication of a new commemorative edition of The Highway (the WEA’s newsletter throughout a large part of the twentieth century).

Tues 10th April 2pm-4pm Drop-in archival research session led by Brian Bennison – Getting the most out of the British Newspaper Archive and other online resources. Newcastle City Library, room tbc
Tues 10th April 5.30pm The Irish Question and the NE of England – pop-up Reading Room event, featuring a very lively reconstructed debate between the various foes and factions in the war of independence. (flyer below this table) Time Warp shop, Eldon Garden Shopping Centre, Newcastle NE1 7RA
Thursday 12th April 10-12am Research Café – Come to discuss and share what you’ve been researching and what you envisage writing for The Highway. This will also be an opportunity for those of you who haven’t yet decided what to write to be offered some topics that could do with coverage.
Lunch will be provided between this and the afternoon Graphics session (see below)

Thursday 12th April 1-4pm Graphics Session – Planning timescales and layout for The Highway.  Led by the brilliant Tommy Anderson, this will shape our plans for the next couple of months leading up to our publication. Tuesday 17th April 10am-12 Document Analysis Research Skills Workshop Session led by the wonderful Anthea Lang.  Bring along a document you’ve discovered (Anthea will provide additional documents if required), and work with Anthea to establish its reliability and ways in which you can use it.
